Enter your step or porch height and we'll recommend the right ramp length.
Measure from the ground to the top of the highest step or landing.
Why slope matters: ADA recommends 1:12 slope for independent wheelchair use (1 inch of rise per 12 inches of ramp). 2:12 is only appropriate with a caregiver; 3:12 only for unoccupied transport. Always verify local building code before installing.
The PVI OnTrac Ramp is a freestanding, semi-permanent aluminum wheelchair ramp with handrails — the right choice when a portable folding ramp isn't enough but a fully built modular system is more than you need. It's strong enough to live outside year-round, simple enough to install in an afternoon with common hand tools, and light enough to remove and resell when it's no longer needed.
OnTrac ramps come welded in 3' and 4' base sections that splice together with included hardware to create the eight available lengths from 3' all the way to 10'. All lengths are 36" usable width with double handrails included on both sides — the OnTrac is never sold without handrails, both as a safety requirement and because the handrails are integral to the ramp's structural design.
This is the right ramp for home access where the ramp will stay put: front porches, back decks, side entries, garage thresholds, and outbuilding access. Because the ramp is freestanding and doesn't have to be permanently attached to the building it serves, in most cases installation simplifies code compliance — and may eliminate the need for a building permit (verify with your local code authority).
The OnTrac supports two slope ratings depending on how it's used:
For ADA 1:12 slope, simply double the ramp length to find the maximum rise — a 10' OnTrac handles a 10" rise at ADA grade.
The OnTrac is freestanding and assembles with common hand tools — typically a ratchet, a few sockets and wrenches, an Allen wrench, and a masonry bit if you're anchoring into concrete. PVI recommends two people for assembly. The ramp must be anchored at both the top (using the included hook bracket and concrete screws) and the bottom (using support brackets that adjust to grade) before it can be used.
Footing options include lag screws into existing concrete, precast concrete pads, patio pavers, or poured-in-place footings. The ramp doesn't need to be permanently attached to the building or porch it serves — it stands on its own.
PVI offers two semi-permanent ramp systems. The OnTrac is the right fit for straight runs up to 10 feet with rises up to about 20" at 2:12 slope. The Modular XP system is the right fit for longer runs (up to 40+ feet), higher rises (up to 60"), and configurations that require turn platforms, switchbacks, or multi-direction layouts.
If you can answer "yes" to all three — your application is a straight-shot ramp, the rise is under 20", and you don't need turns or platforms — the OnTrac is faster to install, less expensive, and a cleaner-looking finish for residential installations. If any of those don't apply, look at the Modular XP system instead.
If you need the ramp to fold up and travel with you, choose a portable folding ramp (PVI Singlefold, Multifold, or Multifold Reach) instead. The OnTrac is built to be installed and stay installed — handrails included, anchor points included — and isn't designed for daily setup and breakdown.
