PVI OnTrac Modular Ramp

Some entrances need more ramp than a portable can give at a safe slope, yet nothing like a configured system with landings and turns: a stoop, a porch edge or a side door with a straight approach and a rise between 3 in and 20 in across the range. The PVI OnTrac is built for that middle ground. It is a freestanding aluminum ramp with handrails on both sides, sold as a single straight run in eight lengths from 3 ft to 10 ft, 36 in wide between the curbs, that stands on its own legs and bolts together with hand tools.

It is a straight run only. PVI lists the OnTrac only as straight ramps from 3 ft to 10 ft, with no platform, turn or resting landing, so a doorway that needs a level landing or a path that has to bend calls for the PVI Modular XP instead. PVI's assembly manual sets the slope between 1:12 and 2:12 and notes that the ADA recommends 1:12 where space allows; PVI's catalog adds that an occupied chair or scooter should never go steeper than 2:12, and then only with an assistant, with 3:12 reserved for unoccupied loading. Freestanding does not mean loose: the manual requires the ramp to be anchored at both its upper and lower ends.

• Handrails on both sides, standard: Every ramp section carries a left and a right handrail assembly and the entrance gets its own pair, per PVI's assembly manual; an ADA extended handrail is available on request.
• One run per length: PVI welds 2 ft, 3 ft and 4 ft sections and splices them to make each of the eight lengths, so you order the length and receive the whole ramp.
• 850 lb across two axles: PVI's rating is 850 lb with both axles of a chair on the ramp and 425 lb when a single axle is loaded.
• 36 in usable, 42 in overall: The deck is 36 in between the 4 in curbs, and the handrail posts bring the overall width to 42 in, per the assembly manual.
• Freestanding with anchored ends: The ramp needs no permanent attachment to the building; it rests on height-adjustable support brackets and is fixed to the ground at the hook bracket and support brackets with concrete screws.
• Lateral-groove aluminum planking: The slip-resistant grooves run across the deck, and the all-aluminum build is weather resistant and needs little or no maintenance, per PVI.
• Packs down for assembly on site: PVI welds the OnTrac in 2 ft, 3 ft and 4 ft sections that splice together, so even the 127 lb 10 ft ramp arrives as sections rather than one piece.

Who It Is For

A home with a porch or raised entry of 3 in to 20 in and a straight approach, where the ramp will stay put for a season or longer: a parent moving in, a hospice or rehab period, or a rental where nothing can be built onto the house. The handrails make it a fit for people who walk with a cane or walker as well as for wheelchair and scooter users, and it is graded for commercial or residential entryways. A rise above 20 in, a turn, or a level landing at the door needs the PVI Modular XP; a ramp that travels between addresses every week is a job for a PVI folding portable.

Measure from the ground to the top of the step or landing the ramp will meet. At PVI's recommended 1:12 slope each 1 in of rise needs 1 ft of ramp, so a 7 in rise calls for the 7 ft ramp; the upper figures in the rise table reflect the 2:12 slope PVI allows for occupied use with an assistant present.

Installation

PVI says the OnTrac installs in minutes and does not publish a time. Its assembly manual lists the tools: a ratchet with 1/2 in deep well and 7/16 in sockets, a 1/2 in wrench, a 1/4 in masonry bit, a 5/32 in Allen wrench, a #2 Phillips bit and a tape measure. Carriage bolts, hex bolts, concrete screws, lock nuts and washers are supplied.

1. Fit the caps to the handrail posts and bolt a left and a right handrail assembly to each ramp section, plus two entrance handrail assemblies at the entrance base.
2. Join the ramp bases with the ramp splices, add the entrance base with its entrance splices, and fit the hook bracket at the top end.
3. Set the entrance handrail first, then the ramp handrails through the handrail splice, and finish with the lower tubes and end loops.
4. Bolt the support brackets to the entrance posts and set them to the height of the landing.
5. Move the ramp into its final position, check that the slope sits between 1:12 and 2:12, then anchor it through the hook bracket and support brackets with the concrete screws.
6. Leave all hardware loose until this last step, then tighten everything.

Warranty

PVI Manufacturing Limited Lifetime Warranty

Limited lifetime warranty, which applies to all end purchasers other than residents of the State of California: PVI Manufacturing warrants to the original end purchaser of the product that the product is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. This warranty does not apply to any product that has been subject to misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, accident, usage not in accordance with product instructions, acts of God, or improper installation, or that has been used for rental purposes or repaired by someone other than PVI Manufacturing. This warranty does not cover normal deterioration of the product due to wear and exposure.

Five year warranty, which applies to residents of the State of California: For a period of five years after the purchase of the product by the original end purchaser of the product, PVI Manufacturing warrants to the original end purchaser of the product that the product is free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The same exclusions apply: misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, accident, usage not in accordance with product instructions, acts of God, improper installation, rental use, repair by someone other than PVI Manufacturing, and normal deterioration due to wear and exposure.

Remedy: This warranty is limited to repairing or replacing, at the option of PVI Manufacturing, any product that is returned to PVI Manufacturing and is reasonably determined by PVI Manufacturing to be defective. The repair or replacement of a defective product under this warranty will be made by PVI Manufacturing without charge for parts or labor. This excludes shipping or delivery charges to and from PVI Manufacturing's place of business. If the product has been discontinued, PVI Manufacturing may replace the product with a new product of comparable value and function. PVI Manufacturing also reserves the right to refund the purchase price as its exclusive warranty remedy.

Claims: Any claim alleging that the product fails to conform to this warranty may be made only by the original end purchaser and only while such purchaser owns the product. A defective product that is covered by this warranty must be returned, at the purchaser's expense, along with proof of date of original purchase (such as a receipt, check or other document PVI Manufacturing deems acceptable that shows the date of purchase and the identity of the product and purchaser), along with a description of the alleged defect, to PVI Manufacturing, 2620 Industrial Drive, Fairbury, Nebraska 68352.

Except as set forth herein, PVI Manufacturing makes no warranties, expressed or implied, and PVI Manufacturing disclaims and negates all other warranties, including, without limitation, implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, conformity to models or samples, or any warranties or indemnities against intellectual property infringement. Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties, so these limitations may not apply to you. In no event will Prairie View Industries, Inc. be liable for any indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages or for any liability in excess of the purchase price of the product.

Before using the product, the purchaser must first determine the suitability of the product for its intended use, and the purchaser assumes all risk and liability whatsoever in connection therewith. No person, agent, distributor, dealer or company is authorized to change, amend or modify the terms of this warranty. This warranty gives the purchaser specific legal rights, and the purchaser may also have other rights that vary from state to state. The purchaser may not assign the purchaser's rights or obligations under this warranty without the prior written consent of PVI Manufacturing.
