MPN MXPLLEGLAND
Component Long leg landing support for Modular XP
System PVI Modular XP

A Modular XP leg stands on its own only up to a point. PVI's XP3 assembly manual draws that line at a 26 in rise: any landing higher than that, and any ramp run with the same rise, must have long leg supports fitted. These are those supports, sold in a landing version and a ramp version so the bracing matches the part of the system it holds.

Systems with a rise of 26 in or less use standard legs alone and do not need this item. PVI describes the landing support as two straps per side of the base and the ramp support as straps on the front and back of each leg, but does not publish strap lengths, how many straps or legs one kit covers, or a leg height range for the kit. Send us your landing sizes and total rise and we will confirm the quantity of each version with PVI.

Key Features

  • Required above a 26 in rise: PVI's manual makes long leg supports mandatory for landings above 26 in and for ramp runs with the same rise, rather than leaving them as an optional stiffener.
  • Landing version: two straps per side: On a landing, PVI specifies two straps on each side of the base to brace the long legs, per the XP3 manual.
  • Ramp version: front and back of each leg: On a ramp run above a 26 in rise, PVI calls for straps on the front and the back of every leg, and the ramp support is the part for that position.
  • Covers the upper part of the rise range: PVI lists the Modular XP as accommodating rises up to 60 in, so every installation between 26 in and that ceiling needs these supports somewhere in the layout.
  • Adds to the legs PVI already supplies: The manual lists ramp legs up to 60 in and landing legs up to 66 in; the supports brace those legs and are ordered in addition to them.
  • Two versions, chosen by what they brace: A layout where both the platform and the run sit above 26 in needs the landing support for the platform legs and the ramp support for the ramp legs.

Who It Is For

Any Modular XP installation serving a rise above 26 in: porches well above a single step, raised entries on homes built over crawl spaces or garages, and commercial doors reached by a full flight of steps. Installers and dealers planning the system should identify every landing and every run above that line before ordering, and residents with a lower rise can leave this item out. The supports are made in the USA at PVI's Fairbury, Nebraska plant, like the legs they brace.

Installation

PVI's XP3 manual places the long leg supports during landing and ramp assembly, two straps per side on a landing and on the front and back of each leg on a ramp run, and tells installers not to fully tighten hardware until assembly is complete. It does not publish a separate time or tool list for the supports.

  1. Compare the rise at each landing and each ramp run against PVI's 26 in threshold and note which ones need supports.
  2. Fit the landing supports as two straps per side of the base while the landing legs are being assembled, leaving the hardware loose.
  3. Fit the ramp supports to the front and back of each leg on every run above 26 in.
  4. Tighten all hardware once the whole system is in its final position, then include the straps in the regular check for loose fasteners.

Diagram showing where to measure rise height for ramp selection

Measure from the ground to the top of the highest step or landing.

10"
Or enter exact rise: in.
Recommended length (ADA 1:12)
10 ft. ≈ 4.8° incline8.3% grade
ADA maximum running slope
Occupied (1:6)with helper5 ft.
Unoccupied (1:4)no rider4 ft.

A 1:12 slope means 12 inches of ramp for every inch of rise. The bigger the second number, the gentler the climb. Gentler is always safer, so verify local building code before installing.

Why slope matters
SlopeInclineIntended Use
1:12≈4.8°Independent wheelchair use. The ADA standard.
1:6≈9.5°Steepest acceptable for an occupied chair or scooter, and only with a qualified helper.
1:4≈14°Unoccupied transport only, with no one riding.

Read the ratio as rise to length: 1:4 means every inch of rise needs 4 inches of ramp, so it climbs three times faster than 1:12. Some manufacturers write these same two slopes as 2:12 and 3:12, which are identical inclines in unreduced form.

Use the longest ramp your space allows and follow your equipment’s owner manual. A rise over 30 inches needs a landing or platform.
